Todd CPO Fund Raiser

The Todd Community Preservation Organization (TCPO) will hold a silent auction and community Art and Yard sale on Saturday, May 28, 2011, to raise funds for the community Summer Music Series. Free summer music concerts have become a fixture in Todd since starting in 2001. The series is a showcase for local and regional talent that both celebrates and helps preserve a rich mountain music heritage. Full Story

Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s team up for National Women Build Week

Kill A Watt™ EZ meters, donated by Blue Ridge Electric, are now available for free checkout at all public libraries in Watauga, Wilkes, and Ashe Counties. Kill A Watt™ EZ plug power meters are designed to easily measure how much electricity is used by your plug-in appliances at home or at work. Full Story

Blowing Rock Changes Meeting Schedule

On April 12, 2011, the Town of Blowing Rock Board of Commissioners voted to permanently change the time for their regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., effective May 10, 2011. Microchipping is the process of embedding a tiny identification microchip under a pet's skin, which can be scanned and read at shelter facilities to identify the pet's owner. Saturday microchip clinics are held once a month at the Animal Medical Center of Boone, 1582 Old 421 South, from 11:30 am until Noon. Full Story

Pinto Bean Supper at Bethelview

Parkway Team Places 3rd in State Odyssey of the Mind Competition

Parkway School’s seventh grade Odyssey of the Mind team took third place in the state in the middle school division of the Odyssey of the Mind tournament held in Asheville earlier this month.  Parkway’s team consists of Hannah Dallas, Max Schlenker, Shelby Reagan, Cole Funk, Mary Seramur, Alex Mancini, and Jonathan Gragg, and the team was coached by Parkway parent Lynn Schlenker.
