Men’s Golf to Play in Scotland PDF Print

Appalachian State University men’s golf will participate in the 2010 International Collegiate Championship at the Torrance Course at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland, head coach Bill Dicus announced on Monday.

The tournament, which will be held for the third time from Sept. 5-7, also includes teams from Georgia Southern, North Carolina, NC State and Baylor as well as British teams from St. Andrews University, Stirling University and the Scottish Golf Union.

The cost of the Appalachian’s participation in the event is being covered by boosters that will also make the trip across the pond with the Mountaineers. Those boosters will participate with supporters from other schools in the event’s Booster Challenge, a tournament played concurrently with the International Collegiate on four of St. Andrews finest courses, including Kingsbarns and Kittocks.

In addition, the Mountaineers will also have the opportunity to play the world-famous Old Course at St. Andrews, the site of this year’s British Open.

NCAA rules permit teams to travel internationally for competition once every four years. This is the first international event in the history of ASU men’s golf.

“We are very excited to represent Appalachian in this event and extremely grateful to our boosters who have made this trip revenue-neutral for the University and the athletics department,” Dicus said. “We are indeed fortunate to be playing in this event and will strive to win not only the International Collegiate Championship but also the Booster Challenge.”

There are still a very limited number of openings for members of the Appalachian community to accompany the Mountaineers on this very special trip. For more information, contact Dicus at (828) 964-0061 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
