Rising senior Shelby Drummonds of the Watauga High softball team raised her game another notch recently.
Drummonds, Watauga's only All-Northwestern 3A/4A Conference selection and an all-district selection, was named to the Class 4A All-State team by the North carolina Softball Coaches Association.
Drummonds is joined on the all-state team by Brooke Sharpe, Chelsea Wilkinson, Kaylea Payne, Lauren Elder and Stephanie Krider of Alexander Central, and Chasten Hall of South Caldwell. Holly Jones, Julia Wakefield and Tranea Jones of St. Stephens, and Chelsea Walker of Hibriten were named to the Class 3A squad.
Haley Williams, Sarah Jennings and Terra Johnson of Wilkes Central were named all-state in Class 2A. Drummonds was one of four WHS players named to the District 7 team. She was joined on that squad by rightfielder Caroline Yates, second baseman Kelsey Rominiger, and shortstop Taylor Drummonds.
Drummonds, a junior, was tied for the team lead or led the team in hits, runs scored, runs-batted-in, doubles, t ripples and home runs. She batted .371 with a .450 onbase percentage and a .629 slugging percentage in league play. Overall, Drummonds batted .338 with two home runs, 14 RBI, 18 runs scored, six doubles and three triples. And she only struck out four times in 40 at bats this season.
Pitching-wise, Drummonds was 5-11 with a save and a 2.88 earned-run-average. In 90 innings of work, she struck out 64 batters and walked 28.
