The search is finally over. Debbie Yow, according to the Atlantic Coast Conference Journal, will be named the new Athletics Director at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. She replaces Lee Fowler, who resigned in May, and will officially leave the position on June 30.
Yow is the younger sister of Hall of Fame coach Kay Yow, who led the women's basketball program at NC State for 34 years before she passed away following a long battle with cancer last year.
"N.C. State has expressed interest in me, yes, but at this time that's all I can say," Yow said. "It's flattering that they have an interest in me."
Yow, a native of Gibsonville, NC, is currently the Athletics Director at the University of Maryland. She has held that position since 1994, and the school has won 17 national titles in five different sports, including men's basketball (2002) and women's basketball (2006) during her tenure. Before that she was the AD at St. Louis University.
Athletics Director Charlie Cobb of Appalachian State University, a NC State graduate and who was as an Associate AD at NC State before coming to ASU, was believed to be a candidate. And while it was never proven that he actually did apply for this position, he was not among the six finalists.
