Luke Wilcox, 13, becomes one of the first to cross the Mile High Swinging Bridge at Grandfather Mountain by wheelchair. video at: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoBlueRidgeNews
Propelled by friend Cole Hawkins, Luke crosses the bridge as the new Top Shop facility is shown off to the press in a Monday event. Luke and his family made the trek to the top annually until the 50 steps from the parking lot became too much for him to be carried. Withe elevator access to the new 'Bridge to the Bridge' access from the top shop, the scenes from the Mile High Swinging Bridge are now accessible to most anyone. The new facility, built by Greene Construction of Boone, was designed and built to withstand the wild mile-high weather atop Grandfather.
