Officials at Chattanooga have announced the Mountaineers and the Mocs will officially kick-off their respective football seasons with a night game.

The Appalachian State football team, which made it to the national semifinals last fall, will begin the season on the road Saturday, September 4 with a 6 pm game against Southern Conference foe Chattanooga. It's the 34th meeting between the schools, and the Apps, who were 11-2 last season, have dominated this series by the whopping margin of 23-10. The Mocs, who were the most improved team in the SoCon last season going 6-5, haven't beaten ASU since 2004. The Mocs won that game in a 59-56 shootout.
The Apps, riding a five-game winning streak against the Mocs, defeated Chattanooga 35-20 last season at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Our coverage of Appalachian's season opener on September 4  begins at 4 pm on WATA 1450 AM.
