Chris Patterson will get to play at the next level, and rightly so.

Patterson, who dominated the Southern Conference and was one of the top relief pitchers in the nation this season, was selected in the 29th round (889th pick) by the St. Louis Cardinals. Patterson also set a school record with 13 saves, breaking the old mark of 11 set by Zack Quate (now pitching in the Tampa Bay Rays organization) last season.
Patterson also becomes the eighth Mountaineer to be drafted in the last three years. The righthander was 4-4 with a 1.67 earned-run-average, he struck out 60 men and gave up eight earned runs in 43 innings of work. He also gave up 34 hits and only walked 13 men in his 29 appearances.
Patterson is the 26th Mountaineer to be drafted in school history, and only the second ASU player to be selected by the Cardinals.
