Search teams continue their search for a 12-year-old Boy Scout believed to be lost in the North Carolina Mountains. They spent all day yesterday searching throughout Doughton Park, which is located near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Wilkes and Allegheny Counties. Michael Auberry was part of a group of 10 scouts and adult leaders of Troop 230 from Greensboro who were camping at the park. According to an Associated Press news report, the group noticed that Auberry was missing during lunch Saturday. The entire group except Auberry and one adult went on a hike earlier in the day. After the troop returned and ate lunch with both Auberry and the adult, the troop noticed that the boy went missing from the camp. Searchers found part of his mess kit less than a mile away Saturday night. Searchers moved their search into more rugged terrain yesterday. Auberry was last seen wearing Blue Jeans, a red jacket with reflective pockets, a long-sleeve sweatshirt, blue cap and hiking boots. Michael is 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 110 pounds with auburn hair. He wears glasses, and may be in need of medical attention. If you have information, contact the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office at 336-651-7501.
