Asheville to host SoCon Tournament 2012-14

The Southern Conference men's and women's basketball tournament is heading back to an old stomping ground.
The SoCon announced Thursday afternoon that the city of Asheville will host the men's and women's Southern Conference Basketball Tournament from 2012-14. The games will be played at the newly renovated Asheville Civic Center and the soon-to-be unveiled UNC-Asheville on-campus facility. It's the first time since 1995 that Asheville has hosted the tournament. It was a mainstay there from 1984-1995.
"We're thrilled to be returning to Asheville, a site where the Southern Conference enjoyed some of its most exciting basketball championships," said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino.  "The City of Asheville clearly demonstrated its enthusiasm and commitment to hosting the tournament in its presentation to the membership.  We had six outstanding choices available, which illustrates the growing prestige of this event."
There were six cities in the running for the Southern Conference men's and women's basketball tournament. Chattanooga is hosting the tournament this season.
