Revenge is so sweet.Just ask the Appalachian State University baseball team that avenged an extra-inning, heartbreaking loss on Wednesday in the opening round of the Southern Conference tournament against the College of Charleston. The Apps (37-17-1), who will play Western Carolina Saturday morning at 9 am, eliminated the Cougars 10-6 on Friday afternoon at Riley Park in Charleston, SC.
ASU pounded out 13 hits, and the Cougars made four costly errors. David Towarnicky and Jack Myers each had two runs-batted-in; Wes Hobson and Tyler Zupcic each had three hits.
Greg Blake and Jose Rodriquez homered for the Cougars.
Ryan Arrowood, who coughed up six earned runs and 11 hits in six innings of work, picked up his eighth win of the year. He also struck out five men and didn't give up a walk. Taylor Miller finished up with 1 2/3 scoreless innings of work and picked up his first save.
After they scored six runs in the second and third innings combined, the Cougars (42-17) were held scoreless the rest of the way. WATA 1450 AM will join the ASU-WCU game right at 9 am Saturday morning.
