ASU v. Georgia Southern Thursday PDF Print

The Appalachian State University baseball team will play Georgia Southern in a loser's bracket game Thursday morning in the Southern Conference Tournament at Riley Park in Charleston, SC.

The Eagles (34-23), the No.3 seed and defending champions of this tournament, got clobbered 11-4 in their first-round match by Western Carolina Wednesday afternoon. The Catamounts(35-19-1) scored three times in the fourth inning and three more times in the fifth to break the game open.
Dylan deGraaf and Matt Johns paced the Catamounts. deGraaf had three hits, including a triple and two stolen bases, and drove in three runs; Johns had two hits and drove in two runs.
Matt Benedict went 7 2/3 innings and picked up the win. He gave up two earned runs on ten hits, walked one and struck out seven.
The Catamounts will play College of Charleston Thursday night in a winner's bracket game at 9 pm.
ASU (35-17-1) was 1-2 against Georgia Southern this season. The teams played a three-game series in Statesboro, GA way back in March. ASU salvaged one of those games by outscoring the Eagles 16-12 in the series finale on March 14.
This is an elimination game. The winner will advance to third-round play Friday afternoon at 3 pm. Our coverage begins at 8:40 am Thursday morning on WATA 1450 AM.
