An elderly couple from Columbus, Ohio who’d been missing since early last week were found late Thursday here in the High Country.

William and Goldie Slavens, both in their 80’s, disappeared last Monday.  Avery County Sheriff’s Deputy Derrick Woody pulled them over for a traffic violation near Linville Falls. He took them into custody when he thought they appeared disoriented. After running a check on their license, Woody learned that they were missing and contacted the family late Thursday night. The elderly couple reportly did not know where they were…didn’t know they were in North Carolina. The Pineolla Inn provided the couple with housing for the night, even giving Mrs. Slavens a coat and shoes out of their store. A niece came drove the couple back to Ohio…they were expected to arrive home by Saturday.
