Paving scams costing area residents thousands of dollars have prompted the Watauga Sherriff's Department and Boone Police to ask for help from for area residents victimized by unscrupulous practices, prompting the State Attorney General's Office to get involved.   Residents pressured into signing contracts now can call 1-877-566-7226, the Attorney General's Office of Consumer Affairs, and report intimidation or pressure to sign such a contract.

The release on the problem indicated that the High Country area has had numerous complaints since the winter weather took a toll on pavement across the area.  The Sheriff and Boone PD urged residents to be cautious when dealing with such firms, and if you feel victimized, call the toll-free number for the State Attorney General's consumer Affairs Office.
