primary_s._combs_cmyk.jpg2:33 p.m. - Sugar Grove native Steve Combs is running against Diane Cornett Deal and Tom Trexler in the Democratic Primary Election for the Watauga County Clerk of Superior Court.

Combs currently serves as the Clerk for the Town of Boone’s ABC Board.

Combs said he decided to run for Clerk of Court because he feels he would do a great job.

Combs said, “I care about the people of Watauga County and I think it’s time to put someone in there that cares about the people of this county and will put them first.”

Combs has served on the Watauga County School board since 2000 and has served as the Vice Chair since 2006.  He is also a member of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and served on the Parks and Recreation Board in 2008.  Combs is very active at his church, Valle Crucis United Methodist Church and is a recently ordained Lay Speaker.  Combs also volunteers and teaches Sunday School once a month at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation.  He explained, “My family and my church are my A number one priorities right now.”

When we spoke to Combs, he had a special message for Watauga County’s residents.  Combs said, "If they elect Steve Combs to the Clerk of Superior Court, they are going to get a person who has great character, a deep spiritual belief in the county’s people, and will work very hard for you and be there for you every single day.”

Combs lives in his childhood home in Sugar Grove with his wife and children.
