4:24 p.m. - Samaritan’s Purse’s team is settled into their headquarters in Yazoo County, Mississippi to provide emergency help after the weekend’s tornados.

SP’s North America Projects Program Manager Lloyd Blackwell, who is on the ground in Mississippi, said they have set up their base at Calvary Baptist Church.

Blackwell said Yazoo County saw some of the worst damage from the storms.  He said, “Where the tornado hit it is very damaged.  There are probably a hundred plus homes totally destroyed and another 200 damaged here in this county.”

When asked how long SP is planning on staying in the area, Blackwell said that’s a tough question to answer.  Blackwell explained, "I can’t give a definitive answer yet, but as of right now we’re planning and scheduling volunteers through May 15.”

Blackwell explained that around 50 SP volunteers have come to Mississippi from out of town, but they are also utilizing local volunteers in relief efforts.
