Former Appalachian State University quarterback Richie Williams has found another way to feed his competitive nature.

Williams, the 2005 Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year and who led ASU to its first national title that season, has switched careers. Following a disappointing three-year stint in the Canadian Football League that ended with his being released twice last season (first by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and then by Winnipeg Blue Bombers), Williams turned his attention to his real love NASCAR.
He became a member of NASCAR's Drive for Diversity Program, and he was recently hired as a full-time mechanic and a part-time jack man for Germain Racing in Mooresville, NC. Williams and his family live in Charlotte.
Williams worked an ARCA race last weekend in Texas. Williams had a brilliant college career. He threw for 5,918 yards and 44 touchdowns, and he ran for 1,126 yards and 13 touchdowns during his four-year stay with ASU. He was also named the Southern Conference Male Athlete of the Year and received the Bob Waters Award upon the conclusion of the 2005-06 season.
