Watauga High Athletic Director Tom Wright has announced that the women's lacrosse team will open the state playoffs at home May 4.

The WHS women, who won the Conference Six championship Friday night at Mount Tabor by beating West Forsyth 15-9, are a No.1 seed and will receive a first-round bye when the playoffs begin this Friday night. They will host a second-round game at Jack Groce Stadium against Greensboro Page or Northern Guilford on Tuesday on May 4.
Those teams will play each other in a wildcard game Friday night. If WHS (8-5 overall) wins on May 4, the Pioneers will then play on the road in the third round. The most likely opponent will be Western Guilford, which is currently unbeaten at 14-0.
The men's team, which closed out the season by beating Freedom 7-6 last Tuesday night, did not qualify for the state playoffs. The WHS men finish their season at 3-8.
