5:40 p.m. - A Boone woman faces attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting a 12-year-old boy and firing at his 11-year-old brother in Mt. Pleasant on Friday.
Cabarrus County Sheriff Brad Riley said 48-year-old Patti Hatcher Campbell is believed to have pulled into a driveway and the 12-year-old boy came out of the house to approach her vehicle, when she stepped out of the vehicle and fired at him. The bullet entered the boy’s right shoulder and exited on the right side of his neck. The boy’s mother and brother heard the gunshots and came to the house. Campbell is then believed to have fired at the victim’s brother twice, missing him both times. The victim’s mother and brother were able to wrestle the gun away from Campbell.
