Pioneers fall to North Davidson, 4-3 PDF Print

9:57 a.m. - The Watauga High baseball team suffered its first loss of the year Friday night.

 

The Pioneers, taking on North Davidson (2-0) which is ranked 5th in the state in Class 4A, dropped a 4-3 decision Friday night in Lexington. Losing pitcher Dylan Norris had a solid performance on the mound, but his defense let him down as the Pioneers coughed up four unearned runs in the sixth inning.
Norris (0-1) went 5 2/3 innings, he gave up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts. David Martin had two hits and an run-batted-in; Josh Roberts had two hits, Max Linville had a double and Cal Hardee drove in two runs.
The Pioneers (1-1) travels to Cary to play Graham today at the Olympic Complex. Graham is the No.1 ranked team in the state in Class 2A. Game time 2 pm.
Our first broadcast of WHS baseball will be Friday, March 12 when the Pioneers take on South Caldwell in their Northwestern 3A/4A opener. Our coverage begins at 6 pm.
In other games Friday night: T.C. Roberson defeated Alexander Central 10-6. The Cougars are 0-2; Hickory splits a double-header with Statesville. The Red Tornadoes (2-1) won the opener 10-0, but lost the second game, 2-0; Hibriten, which is 2-0, defeated Freedom, 7-2.
