Watauga County School Board member Lowell Younce contacted High Country Radio to officially announce his candidacy for the Watauga County Clerk of Courts.

Younce is a Watauga County native who was born and raised in the Mabel/Zionville community, where he lives today.  He attended Mabel Elementary, Cove Creek High School, then Watauga High School.  After graduating high school in 1967, Younce said he attended Appalachian State and studied history and political science.  He has worked since ’71 as a farmer and has been selling supplemental insurance.  He has been an independent self-employed AFLAC agent since 1973.

He and his wife, Audrey, have been married for 39 years.  The two have two daughters and one grandson with another on the way.

Younce said he has served three terms as a member of the Watauga County Board of Education and has worked to improve an already successful school system.  He explained he does not have an agenda or an axe to grind, but he is simply seeking the position to “help make the office the best performing office in the state of North Carolina.”

Younce said he believes he is qualified to serve as Watauga County’s Clerk of Courts because he has experience in administration, finances, supervising employees, and he says he works well with the people of Watauga County.  Younce said, “While either serving or volunteering within the various organizations, civic clubs, insurance business, and county government, I have established a proven record of good character, fairness, integrity, honesty, and a willingness to help others achieve success.  A former Clerk of Court’s motto was, ‘to know him is to like him.’  If you do not know me, get to know me.  My phone number is 828-297-3634 and my email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
