Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected late tonight into tomorrow morning and the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for most of the High Country.
The watch is in effect from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday through Sunday afternoon in Alleghany, Ashe, Surry, Watauga, and Wilkes counties in North Carolina and a handful for counties across the Virginia state line.
Rainfall amounts of one and a half to two inches can be expected. Officials say when you add this new rainfall to the melting snow; it could cause small creeks and streams to flood by Sunday morning and larger rivers by Sunday afternoon.
