The Appalachian State football team had six players named to The Sports Network All-American Team.
Leading the way, quarterback Armanti Edwards, the school's only four-time All-American. Edwards, who is also the only two-time winner of the Walter Payton Award, is joined on that team by linebacker D.J. Smith and defensive backs Cortez Gilbert and Mark LeGree on the first team. Offensive lineman Mario Acitelli and linebacker Jacque Roman were second-team selections. The Apps (11-3), who made it to the FCS Division I National Semi-Finals before losing to Montana, also finished third in both the final FCS Coaches Poll (they actually finished in a tie with William & Mary) and The Sports Network Poll. Villanova was No.1 and Montana was No.2 in both those polls.
