The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested an Ashe County business owner last week.

Joel Frady with the Ashe Mountain Times broke the story.  Frady reports Keith Simmons, who owns Black Diamond Capital Group in Jefferson, was arrested on Thursday, December 17.

Simmons was reportedly apprehended by the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office, and then placed under arrest by the FBI.

Simmons reportedly faces charges including money laundering, wire fraud and conspiracy, and security fraud.  The arrest stemmed from an investigation in which FBI agents confiscated vehicles and computers from Black Diamond.

The Jefferson Post reports Simmons also owns High South Realty in Jefferson, although the real estate firm is not involved in the investigation.

Simmons is being held in federal custody in Charlotte.  He was scheduled to appear before the Magistrate today.  High Country Radio has been in contact with the FBI offices in Charlotte and will pass along more information when it is available.
