Because of recent snowfall, road crews have been clearing the roadway to keep drivers safe. When scraping the road, crews have inadvertently covered several fire hydrants by the roadway and the Boone Fire Department is asking individuals, businesses, shopping centers, and snow plowing contractors to uncover the fire hydrants in their area.
Town of Boone Fire Marshal Ronnie Marsh said the hydrants are extremely important to the emergency operations of the Boone Fire Department. Some of these fire hydrants are now under six to eight feet of plowed snow, and in the case of an emergency, digging to find the fire hydrant will cost firefighters precious time.
