The National Weather Service has extended the Winter Storm Warning until 7am Sunday morning for northwestern North Carolina. NWS is also cautioning that dropping temperatures may ice up roads throughout the night.

According to the warning posted at 7:01pm Saturday night, heavier snow showers will develop overnight and continue until daybreak, an additional 2 to 5 inches can be expected especially across the higher western slopes.

Overnight and into Sunday blowing snow could hamper driving efforts. Overnight wind speeds are forecast near 20mph with near 30mph gust. On Sunday wind speeds are projected in the 15-21mph range with gust near or above 30mph.
