Both lanes of Highway 421 South are now open after a single-vehicle wreck caused traffic delays earlier this morning.

Captain Gary Taylor of the Deep Gap First Responders said a car hydroplaned around 10:00 this morning near Stony Fork Road just down the mountain.

Taylor said there were two occupants in the vehicle at the time of the wreck and one was taken to Watauga Medical Center for neck and back pain.  Captain Taylor explained the injuries sustained are believed to be minor.

At this point, we have no more specific information about the wreck, but have been in contact with the NC Highway Patrol and should have more information shortly.

The wreck had traffic backed up in the area for well over an hour.
