ASU Freshman Wins Second Place in Global Ski Design Competition PDF Print

joseph.jpgBOONE – Joseph Toney, Boone native and Appalachian State freshman majoring in graphic design and minoring in entrepreneurship, won second place in a global ski design competition sponsored by one of the world's top professional freestyle skiers, T. J. Schiller.

topsheet_1_display.jpgMore than 200 entries were received from all over the world. The announcement was made on T. J. Schiller’s website ( on November 25.
Toney says " I was fortunate enough to place second in the competition and am more than psyched to have done so. I am still in disbelief that I did so well. This competition has sparked a flame inside me to create more ski designs and hopefully eventually landing a design on an actual pair of skis.”
T. J. Schiller is a professional freestyle skier from Vancouver, British Columbia. He placed first in the 2009 X-Games Slopestyle competition and has been a top finisher at top ski events all over the world since 2004.
Joseph Toney focuses on studio art as well as digital design work. He has designed custom crocheted hats, cases, sunglasses, shoes, stickers and shirts. His work can be seen at ns_spectrum_full_base_.jpg
