High winds have caused several power outages in the area yesterday and today.

According to Blue Ridge Electric’s public relations director, Renee Whitener, 85 BREMCO customers were without power for about two hours last night because the wind was causing power lines to slap together.

Outages were also reported in Caldwell County near Blowing Rock, where 213 BREMCO customers lost power for a total of about three hours between 6:00 and 10:00 last night.

Whitener explained a few scattered outages have been reported in Ashe County near Locust Street.  Whitener said linemen are on the scene and working to restore power.
