According to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a call from Marx Industries around 7:15 this morning saying employees saw a man breaking into the vehicles.  While deputies were on their way to the business, employees detained the suspect and held him for authorities.

When authorities questioned the suspect, 18-year-old Jacob Adam Patterson, of Granite Falls, Sergeant Russell Bolick says he was able to determine that Patterson was involved in a wreck earlier in the day and had fled the scene of the crash.

So far, Patterson only faces charges stemming from the breaking and entering allegations, but the N.C. Highway Patrol is reportedly looking into the possibility that Patterson had fled the scene of a crash.

Patterson is being held under a $75,000 bond and will appear in court on Monday.
