Breitenstein out for season PDF Print

Wofford College football coach Mike Ayers has announced that running back Eric Breitenstein will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Breitenstein, who was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team last fall, suffered the injury during week two against Charleston Southern.

The injury occurred when Breitenstein, who will take a medical red-shirt this season, collided with a defender near the visitor’s sideline.

The Wofford sophomore suffered a torn posterier cruciate ligament, and a damaged posterier capsule in his right knee. The PCL is one of four ligaments that is important to the stability of the knee joint. It sits right behind the anterior cruciate ligament.

Breitenstein, who ran for 395 yards and and two touchdowns last season, was on his way to a big season before this setback. He had 187 yards in less than two games with three touchdowns. He was also averaging nearly seven-yard-per-carry.

Breitenstein was a two-time All-State performer for Watauga High during his junior and senior years. He led WHS to 23 wins and the Western finals two years in a row. He also played in the Shrine Bowl his senior year.

The Terriers (1-4 overall; 0-2 in the SoCon) have a bye this week. They host Appalachian State next Saturday.
