The Appalachian State football team, which picked up its first win of the year Saturday against Samford at soggy Kidd Brewer Stadium, is currently ranked 10th in The Sports Network Poll.
The Apps (1-2 overall; 1-0 Southern Conference) are the only SoCon team ranked in the top ten. Richmond is No.1 for the fourth consecutive week. The Spiders (4-0), who defeated VMI Saturday, received 117 of 139 first-place votes. Villanova at No.2 received 13 first-place votes. The Wildcats (4-0) blasted Northeastern 56-7 Saturday in Philadelphia. Northern Iowa (with six first-place votes), which defeated Missouri State, Montana, which survived an overtime scare from Northern Arizona, and William & Mary (two first-place votes) round out the top five. New Hampshire (3-0) at No.6 received one first-place vote. The Wildcats defeated Dartmouth, 44-14. James Madison, Southern Illinois, McNeese State and ASU round out the top ten. Elon (3-1) is 12th. Wofford (1-3), which lost to Chattanooga Saturday, has dropped out of the top 25. It's the first time since the final rankings in 2006 that Wofford is not in the top 25 poll. The Apps travel to the Citadel Saturday. Our coverage begins at 11 AM on WATA 1450 AM. Moutaineer Talk with the voice of the Mountaineers, David Jackson, airs Thursday night at 7 pm on WATA.
