September is the peak of hurricane season for North Carolina, so it’s no real surprise that Governor Bev Perdue would name it Emergency Preparedness Month.

So far, this hurricane season has been very mild for the entire eastern seaboard, but Perdue says it’s not too late to be hit with a big one, much like Hurricane Hugo hit in September of 1989.

Perdue said this month isn’t just a reminder for hurricane season, but all types of emergency situations including natural disasters and flu outbreaks.

The Governor is calling for every North Carolinian to prepare for disasters and to get seasonal flu shots.  Perdue is also urging residents to receive an H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available later this fall.
