Armanti Edwards is ready to go, and he will start on Saturday when the Mountaineers kick-off the home portion of the schedule against McNeese State.
The Appalanchian State senior confirmed his playing status during his Southern Conference teleconference Wednesday morning. The Walter Payton Award winner had been sidelined by a foot injury he suffered back in early August in a lawnmower accident. Edwards had 30 stitches in his foot.
He returned to practice last Monday hoping to play in the season opener at East Carolina last Saturday. But coach Jerry Moore decided to go with backup DeAndre Pressley instead. Pressley, who played in the first half against the Pirates was 7 of 15 for 89 yards with an interception before he gave way to transfer Travaris Cadet in the third quarter. Cadet nearly pulled off a huge comeback, but the Mountaineers fell short, 29-24.
ASU, ranked second in the FCS Coaches Poll, takes on No.16 McNeese State Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Our air time begins at 1:30 pm on WATA 1450 AM.
