Long Time Coming: Ashe native comes home for book signing PDF Print

Ashe County native Joanne Vannoy Goetz has come a long way since graduating from Fleetwood High School.  After graduating from Appalachian State University in 1956, Goetz taught school for 42 years. After retirement last year, Goetz wrote a book, Long Time Coming. The book tells the story of her involvement with the Darryl Hunt murder case in Winston-Salem. Goetz taught Hunt in the sixth grade and always supported him, even after he was charged with the murder of Deborah Sykes. A DNA test cleared hunt after he served 18 months in prison. Goetz will be at Skyland Books and Gifts Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to sign her book.
