Former Watauga High football player Eric Breitenstein made his first start of the season with Wofford College a good one on Saturday.
Unfortunately, it wasn't good enough to save the Terriers as they lost to South Florida 40-7 down in Tampa in the season opener for both teams. Breitenstein, who was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team last fall, ran for 121 yards and a touchdown in the loss. His two-yard run in the first quarter tied the game at 7-7. Breitenstein was an all-state player, rambled for more than 6,000 yards in his career at WHS and also played in the North Carolina-South Carolina Shrine Bowl in December of 2007. The Terries (0-1) play Charleston Southern at home Saturday. The Terriers entertain Appalachian State October 17. Breitenstein ran for 157 yards against the Mountaineers last season on Halloween night at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
