Morganton: Two Drexel Heritage facilities are on fire this morning with flames said to reach several hundred feet in height--both plant said to have been destroyed.
The two Drexel plants, 3 and 4, were discovered on fire at about 3 this morning, according to Charlotte news reports, and with the intensity of the fires, firefighters were allowing the fire to burn, working to keep flames from spreading to other structures. The plants have been closed for some time, according to Morganton Police, who closed off East Fleming street, the US 70 busines route through Morganton. The investigation into the cause of the fire will begin in earnest after the site cools, according to fire officials.
