Let's begin with the Appalachian State men's basketball team wrapping up its two-game exhibition stay in the Bahamas.
The Apps opened up a commanding 27-8 lead in the opening stanza and cruised home. Kellan Brand led the way with 17 points. Donald Sims had 11. Red-shirt freshman Josh Nirenberg had nine points, seven rebounds. Tyler Webb had ten boards. The Apps will play Mars Hill in an exhibition game at the Holmes Center November 6. The Mountaineers open the regular season at home against UNC-Wilmington on November 13. ****** The high school football season opened up Friday night around the region. The Watauga High School football team had its season-opening game in West Jefferson against Ashe County postponed by imclement weather.
