Wilkes County sheriff’s deputies discovered an infant and a 5-year-old child at a mobile home in which drugs were allegedly found. The call came in as a domestic disturbance.
Instead, deputies found a home cloudy with marijuana smoke. Crystal Reed claimed she had fallen asleep on the couch and awoke to find the home full of smoke. According to Reed, 30-year-old Dennis McBurnett was supposed to watch the children, who were found playing in the residence. Deputies contacted the Department of Social Services, and investigation into the children’s overall living conditions is underway. Deputies do not know if Reed was telling the truth and have not filed charges against her. McBurnett, on the other hand, faces child abuse, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia charges. McBurnett was jailed on a $2,000 secured bond.
