Red Cross issues plea for donors PDF Print

The current blood supply has dropped critically low throughout the Southeast, and the American Red Cross is urging individuals to donate blood as soon as possible.

According to a statement released yesterday, the Carolinas Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, there is less than a day’s supply of most blood types. While all blood types are needed, a special need exists for types O and B. A drop in the blood supply is typical of the summer season. When schools and colleges close and people are on vacations, people tend to donate less. The shortage, however, has occurred earlier in the season this year, and the Red  Cross fears the upcoming July 4th holiday will make the situation worse. For more information on how you can donate, call 1-800-GIVE LIFE.

FYI:

Cheap Joe's Art Stuff is sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday, July 3 from 11:00 to 3:30 at the store, located in Watauga Industrial Park.

Watauga American Red Cross is having a blood drive Tuesday, July 3 from 1:30 to 6:00, sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 100. The drive will be held at the Holiday Inn Express on Blowing Rock Road.

Watauga Medical Center is having a blood drive on Wednesday, July 11, at 336 Deerfield Road.

Donate blood or platelets between July 1 and July 31 and be entered in a drawing for two Delta Airlines Round-Trip Domestic Tickets.
