Drift smoke from the Shortoff fire is causing trouble in Watauga and surrounding areas, says Blowing Rock Fire Department’s Captain Aaron Miller.
Emergency departments in the area have received several calls today about the drift smoke from citizens suspecting fire, he says.
"We just want people to be aware that we are experiencing a lot of drift smoke from the Linville Gorge fire, and, unless they have specific information about a fire going on right then, just to be aware it's drift smoke from Linville Gorge and probably not a fire in their area," he said.
