Sophomore and right-handed pitcher Ryan Arrowood of Appalachian State has been chosen to play in the Coastal Plain League All-Star game Monday night in Wilmington, NC.

Arrowood is 8-0 with a 2.05 earned-run-average. He's given up 37 hits and he has struck out 55 and walked only 16 with one complete game in 57 innings of work. Arrowood is playing for the Forest City (NC) Owls, who are 35-5 and are ranked the No.1 team in the nation among summer league collegiate teams.

Playing for ASU last spring, Arrowood batted .286 with 22 hits, five doubles, four home runs and ten runs-batted-in; pitching-wise, he was 1-1 with an 8.15 ERA; in 35 1/3 innings of work, Arrowood coughed up 32 earned runs, walked 20 men and struck out 19.

Former ASU pitcher Aubrey Edens has signed with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the independent Northern League. Eden made his professional debute on Thursday against the Joliet Jammers. Despite taking the loss, Edens gave up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings of work. In his career with the Mountaineers, Edens was 12-9 in four years, and led the Mountaineers with six wins his senior year. He is also the school's all-time leader in games started (39), appearances (64) and innings pitched (240).

Catcher Andrew Franco, who was released by Sioux City of the independent American Association in mid-June, has now signed with the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League. Franco batted .356 with 25 doubles, 14 home runs and 97 RBI during his two-year stay with the Mountaineers after he transferred over from Tallahassee Community College. He also led the Apps with a .387 batting average his junior year with eight homers and 63 RBI.
