The Watauga Nationals 13-14 year old Junior League team marched its way into the District 7 finals Friday night by outscoring Wilkes National 14-13 at the Optimist Park in Boone.

The win moves Watauga in the finals on Tuesday night. As of now, Watauga will play either West Caldwell, Wilkes American or Wilkes National in the championship game.

West Caldwell and Wilkes American are scheduled to play Saturday afternoon at 1pm. The winner will then play Wilkes National on Monday night. And because Watauga is currently undefeated in this double-elmination format, the Watauga Nationals must be defeated twice to lose the title.

But a win on Tuesday and they will advance to the state tournament in Lewisville, NC, which begins next Saturday, July 25. Taylor Shuford, who was also the winning pitcher, went four-for-four; Tyler Jones was five-for-five; and Tyler Sturgill went three-for-four with a double.
