High Country residents are banding together to raise money for a father who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Courtney Eller told High Country Radio her father, Mark Wellborn, has recently been diagnosed with cancer.  In order to help raise money for the Wellborn family, Eller said a benefit motorcycle ride and car show will be held early next month in Deep Gap.

The Full Throttle Motorcycle Ride and Car Show will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, at Laurel Springs Baptist Church.

Eller said the motorcycle ride will be about 90 miles.  Registration is $20  with $5 for additional riders.  Registration for the motorcycle ride includes a barbeque lunch plate.  Car show registration is $5 per car and does not include lunch.

Family-friendly games and activities for children will also be held.  Barbecue plate dinners will be for sale at the event.
