Grandfather Mountain Highland Games to Hold Opening Ceremony Tonight PDF Print

The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games will officially be kicked off tonight around 9:00.


The opening ceremony to the Highland Games will begin at the conclusion of the Bear Hillclimb, which begins at 7:00.


Looking ahead to tomorrow, the Grizzly Bicycle Roadrace will begin Friday morning at 8:00.  The heavy Scottish athletics also begin at 8:00.


After a day of games, the Celtic Jam will begin at 6:00 p.m. at MacRae Meadows.


The Grandfather Mountain Marathon will begin Saturday morning at 7:00 in Boone.


The gates open at 7:30 on Saturday morning as spectators will come back to the mountain to see professional Scottish heavy athletics and amateur heavy athletics qualifying.  After another day of games and track events, groups will be performing in the Groves from 3:30 until 5:00.  The Celtic Rock Concert featuring Albannach, Barleyjuice, Coyote Run, Clandstine, Teribus, and Scythian will begin at 6:15.


Sunday is the last day of events at the Highland Games.  Sunday’s events feature a Scottish worship service, a Scottish fiddling competition, a sheep dog demonstration and more.
