Appalachian State men’s basketball coach Buzz Peterson has announced that the Mountaineers will play three exhibition games in the Bahamas, August 18-22.
The Mountaineers, per NCAA regulations, will hold ten organized practices with their returnees before their trip to the Caribbean. The Apps will play the Bahamas national team in their three-game stint. All expenses for this trip will be paid by Basketball Travelers Inc., which organizes numerous foreign tours and in-season tournaments each year. Assistant coach Matt McMahon, who has been with the ASU program for ten years, has been ranked 12th among assistant coaches at the mid-major level by CollegeInsider.com. McMahon, who was recognized by his peers on a FoxSports.com poll last year, is the recruiting coordinator and is responsible for player development at ASU. As a player (1997-2000), McMahon led the Mountaineers to an NCAA tournament appearance as the team's starting point guard in 1999-2000. Assistant coach Jim Fox of Davidson was ranked 22nd, and was the only other Southern Conference coach in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. Leon Rice of Gonzaga was ranked No.1. He is 230-60 during his stay with the Bulldogs. Season tickets for Mountaineers basketball are currently on sale. For more information, please call the ASU ticket office at (828) 262-2079. And remember, all ASU games can be heard on the Voice of the Mountaineers in the High Country, WATA 1450 AM Radio.
