Flames at Shortoff have a benefit PDF Print

Now that nearly 2,000 acres burning on Shortoff Mountain are under control, firefighters and biologists are looking at the bright side.
The flames helped with some rough country cleanup, experts say. Some vegetation grows better in fire prone areas. Trees like the Table Mountain Pine, found on Shortoff, contain cones that require a fire’s heat to open and spread their seeds.
