Healthcare has always been a key topic in national policies, but in the current economic climate, healthcare reform is being talked almost on a daily basis.
High Country Radio was able to catch up with North Carolina’s freshman senator, Kay Hagan. Hagan said while she sees problems in the current healthcare system, she doesn’t want those who are happy with their healthcare to have to change.
Hagan said, “If you currently have healthcare, I want to be sure that you have peace of mind to know that if you’re happy with your current plan and your doctors, you can keep it.”
Hagan explained she would like to make healthcare affordable for small business owners so they could provide the service to their employees.
The senator also explained that everyone is bearing the load for those who don’t have healthcare.
Hagan said she is working with a congressional committee on a bill that hopes to solve these healthcare issues.
Hagan said, “I am working very hard with the people on the Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee. Every day, we’re working hours and hours to see how we can craft a bill that will be fiscally responsible and be a cornerstone of this reform package.”
Hagan said Congress must work to lower healthcare for everyone in the country because Americans spend more on healthcare than in any other developed country.
