A 62-year-old grandmother from West Jefferson won $10,000 to help her dream of a lifetime come true.
Sandra Lassen was the grand-prize winner of the Plan to Live Giveaway conducted by funeral homes and cemeteries across the country. The contest asked people what they would do with their lives if they could do anything.
For Lassen, it was an Alaskan cruise with her 81-year-old husband, whose health is failing.
Lassen volunteers with the hospice, so she knows how important it is to plan end-of-life decisions.
Lassen said she and her husband may take a few short trips before possibly taking her dream Alaskan cruise. She also wants to set up two scholarships in her parent’s name at an area high school.
The contest was put on by funeral homes and cemetery service providers who are part of the Simplicity Plan, which helps individuals organize, document, and store end-of-life decisions.
