An Ashe County Middle School student fell just short of making the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The Winston-Salem Journal Reports 14-year-old Anna Wooten, who won the Winston-Salem Journal Regional Spelling Bee, passed the oral rounds of the bee, but didn’t score high enough on the written tests to be included in the final 41 national semifinalists.
The Journal also reported this was Wooten’s first trip to the national spelling bee.
