Yesterday, the Vatican addressed pastoral needs of
motorists, telling motorists to be charitable to others on the highways and
refrain from road rage.
The document, Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the
Road, came about because driving has become such a big part of contemporary
life, according to Cardinal Renato Martino. It urged drivers to avoid
“primitive” behaviors of impoliteness and cursing, as well as not to drink and
drive. The document also encouraged prayer along the route, saying recitation
of the Rosary will not distract the driver’s attention.
